Linear Infrastructure Permitting & Grid Connections Technician

Conditions

  • Permanent contract
  • Hybrid model: 1 day of remote work per week
  • Working hours: 9:30 am to 6:30 pm (Fridays until 3:00 pm)
  • Availability to travel across Spain
  • Location: Hortaleza, Madrid

Role Overview

The Grid Connection & Permitting Technician will be responsible for leading and coordinating the full permitting process required for Verdalia’s biomethane projects, ensuring all necessary authorizations, agreements, and permits are secured to achieve Ready-to-Build (RTB) status.

This role requires extensive experience managing utility connections, infrastructure permitting, rights of way, landowner negotiations, and administrative procedures associated with linear infrastructure projects such as gas pipelines, electrical lines, hydrogen networks, and other energy-related assets.

The successful candidate will oversee the entire permitting lifecycle, from early-stage feasibility assessment through final permit acquisition and agreement execution.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in permitting and stakeholder management for linear infrastructure projects, including gas pipelines, electrical lines, rights of way, road permits, and landowner negotiations, managing the full process from initiation through final authorization.

Key Responsibilities

Gas Grid Connection

  • Conduct preliminary feasibility analysis (capacity, pressure, distance to grid).
  • Liaise with distribution and transmission operators.
  • Request and follow up on connection studies.
  • Negotiate technical and economic conditions.
  • Coordinate basic engineering for the connection point.
  • Monitor progress until signing of technical and commercial agreements.

Electrical Connection

  • Apply for grid connection points (self-consumption or export).
  • Coordinate with electricity distribution companies.
  • Track access and connection permits.
  • Manage associated financial guarantees.
  • Coordinate technically with plant engineering teams.

Access, Roads and Auxiliary Services

  • Process road access permits (regional, national, or municipal roads).
  • Manage permits with municipalities and sectoral authorities.
  • Coordinate public domain interferences (water authorities, roads, railways such as ADIF, etc.).
  • Oversee easements and rights of way.
  • Coordinate permits associated with linear infrastructure projects and utility crossings.

Landowner and Rights of Way Management

  • Lead negotiations with landowners and affected stakeholders.
  • Manage land access agreements, easements, and rights of way.
  • Support the resolution of land-related issues that may impact project development timelines.

Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with Engineering and Legal teams.
  • Identify critical connection and permitting risks at early stages.
  • Propose alternative technical solutions when needed.

Timeline and Risk Management

  • Develop and monitor connection and permitting schedules.
  • Identify administrative bottlenecks.
  • Anticipate technical requirements from utilities and authorities.
  • Support project prioritization strategy.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Degree in Engineering (preferably Industrial, Civil, Energy, or similar).
  • Specialization in energy regulation, infrastructure, or project development is a plus.
  • Professional level of English is a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing permitting processes and administrative procedures for linear infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience handling gas and/or electricity connection permitting processes from initial feasibility assessment through final approval and agreement execution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing easements, rights of way, land access agreements, and negotiations with landowners and affected stakeholders.
  • Experience processing permits related to roads, public domain occupations, utility crossings, and infrastructure authorizations with public administrations and regulatory bodies.
  • Proven ability to manage permitting processes end-to-end, coordinating all required stakeholders until permits and agreements are secured.
  • Experience working with utilities, infrastructure operators, public administrations, engineering firms, or construction companies.
  • Experience in sectors such as gas infrastructure, electrical infrastructure, hydrogen, biomethane, biogas, utilities, energy infrastructure, or similar environments is highly valued.
