Legal Expert Financial Regulation

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Legal Expert to join our Retail Banking Legal Team. The responsibility of this team is supporting the Head of Department, team members, and internal clients to identify and mitigate legal risks across ING’s operations.

Your key responsibilities

As a Legal Expert in the Retail Banking Legal Team you will:

  • Provide expert legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure legal and reputational risks are identified, reported, and mitigated.
  • Act as legal advisor to the retail banking business, working closely with relevant teams.
  • Advise and support business colleagues across product lines, helping to formulate, coordinate, and communicate policies, procedures, and controls to manage legal risk effectively.
  • Engage and manage external counsel, reviewing their advice and documentation.
  • Draft, review, manage, and negotiate a wide range of commercial and outsourcing agreements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for credit institutions.
  • Deliver practical, solution-oriented legal advice on banking and investment matters.
  • Stay current with changes in laws and regulations affecting the banking sector.

  • Navigating a complex financial regulatory environment.
  • Maintaining knowledge of ING’s operations and policies.
  • Deepening expertise in specialized areas and anticipating legal developments to provide forward-looking advice.

  • Building strong relationships with senior management and inspiring stakeholder confidence.
  • Balancing the need for thorough analysis with timely decision-making under commercial pressures.

What are we looking for?

  • Law degree from an accredited institution; qualification to practice law in Spain is desirable.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience at a law firm, fintech, and/or financial institution with regulatory exposure.
  • Essential regulatory expertise: banking and investment products, particularly MIFID, Payments regulations, IDD, or lending regulations.
  • Desirable expertise: digital innovation, data protection and KYC.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Fluent in English (including drafting legal documents) is essential.
  • Proactive attitude and readiness to embrace change and new challenges.
