Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Satellite Connectivity Group

As a member of the Satellite Connectivity Group, you will work on the satellite network that enables connectivity to iPhone when off the grid and without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Every day, Apple customers use Emergency SOS via satellite to access emergency assistance when they are in need of help and have no other means to communicate. You will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to shape this and other critical services, to the benefit and safety of millions of Apple device users.

Key Qualifications
  • Experience with software development with networked services using Linux
  • Proficient with git and CI/CD concepts
  • Proficient in at least one of: Python, Golang, C++
  • You will write some code during your interview.
  • Experience using cloud technologies such as: Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, and Docker
  • Experience with at least one of: Puppet, Chef, Saltstack, Ansible, Terraform
  • Experience with tools like Prometheus, Alert Manager, Influxdb, PagerDuty or similar systems like Sensu, Zabbix, or Nagios
  • Persistent in identifying root causes of issues and driving them to resolution.
  • Flexibility and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.
  • Quick learner with aptitude to deal with ambiguity and enthusiasm to help solve difficult issues.
  • Bonus: Analytical about performance, end-to-end service experience, and overall system health.
  • Bonus: Proficient in SQL, and knowledgeable about databases and data pipelines, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kafka, ClickHouse, DynamoDB, Cassandra, etc.
  • Bonus: Experience with at least one of: React, Bootstrap, Django, Flask, Angular
  • Bonus: Implemented and utilized your own metrics (TSDB) and logging platform with a frontend such as Grafana.

Apple is looking for an SRE (or SWE) to join a small passionate team that builds, monitors, automates, and maintains a sophisticated system for a critical and unique customer-facing Apple service. This is a rare opportunity to help build and run systems and software for a service that customers will rely on every day on a team with a no-ops culture. We’re looking for people who like to solve operational problems using software rather than shell prompts as we scale Apple’s services. You should be a forever learner with a bias toward action and positive energy. Job duties include participating in on-call rotations occasionally. Help us build the Apple experience on a global scale!
Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
