We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Credit Risk Officer to join our Credit Risk Team Wholesale Banking Spain & Portugal (based in Madrid).
The responsibility of this team is the advice and decision making of tailored (lending) transactions for our key WB Sector and Lending clients and supporting these clients in their success whilst safeguarding the risk appetite of the bank. The credit risk managers have a deep understanding of credit structuring, credit risk and businesses & markets, next to the assessment of related risks like ESG, compliance and climate risk. In addition to the asset-by-asset approval process, the Credit Risk Team manages the portfolio on the strategic direction in terms of risk appetite and portfolio steering in sectors and products. It is also engaged in other initiatives covering the wider credit strategy of ING (sector analysis, risk appetite direction, Leveraged Transactions, reporting, climate change).
Our way of working is dynamic, closely working with local Front Office and other Risk Managers across the bank, covering several sectors (a.o. Energy, Infra&Contruction, Food&Agri, TMT.…) and products (a.o. Acquisition Finance, Project Finance, Real Estate Finance….). Focused on taking responsible credit risks, stepping in for each other where needed. The timelines of requests are usually demanding hence flexibility and a ‘can do‘ mentality is important. The team consists of 6 FTE. Your position will be based in Madrid and you will report to the team lead.
Your key responsibilities:
As a Senior Credit Risk Officer, you will be responsible for advising and managing client transactions from origination to closing from a credit risk perspective, in balance with a sound commercial sense. Recommending (to the final approval authority) or deciding on credit risk proposals of different sectors and products within ING’s risk appetite. This includes the assessment of credit quality of customer (internal rating), analysis of business model, transaction structure, review of historical financials and business plan. Ensuring the quality, policy compliance and consistency of the credit application prepared by Front Office. Review of the final documentation to make sure it meets approval conditions. Also the monitoring the portfolio and participating in projects and actively providing input in relevant risk policies and reports;

We look for a pro-active, dedicated and independent thinker; a decision maker with a proven ability to work under pressure in an international and demanding environment; a strong team player.
Professional experience: >10 years (equivalent to a senior VP / Director in FO) in Corporate Banking / Lending.
Able to perform sound financial analysis of individual and consolidated accounts on large and mid-sized Corporates under different accounting principles (IAS, IFRS).
Sound knowledge of cash flow-based modelling and sensitivity analysis.
Knowledge of Corporate Banking products and transaction structures (including term loans, revolving credit facilities, factoring, confirming, performance and financial bonds, letters of credit) as well as acquisition finance structures.
Sound understanding of different sectors / industries dynamics; key aspects of regulatory frameworks; assessment of customer competitive position within its industry.
Experience in reviewing all legal documentation for transactions alongside Front Office and Legal Advisors.
Understanding of key credit risk metrics: RWA, EAD, LDG, ECL, etc.
Fluent English (read, speak and write)
Rigorous, high attention to detail, research skills / mind-set
Highly responsible and reliable; strong commitment to make a quality and timely delivery.
Ability to handle high workload under time pressure / stressful situations. Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment
Ability to work on an autonomous manner but being able to timely raise flags/questions when needed. Anticipation rather than reactive approach
Ability to manage conflicts with Front Office, solve problems and make decisions.
