Job Description

Meeting patients’ individual needs is what drives our science and provides our focus. With this in mind, we are currently building our SMA Centre of Excellence and developing a team of dedicated MSLs (across Europe and Canada) that will establish, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future therapeutic leaders in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and other orphan disease products in development. The role is based in Catalonia with a unique opportunity to be involved in an innovative and ground-breaking program and to become part of an international team of experts working within a dynamically growing part of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Facilitate medical and scientific information exchange with the medical community on SMA and other orphan diseases.
  • Disseminate high quality complex scientific information and provide innovative medical education content aligned with the regional/ affiliate medical education concept.
  • Develop and coordinate clinical presentations.
  • Generate medical insights, provide key learnings to the regional Medical team on regular basis as appropriate.
  • Develop research concepts to therapeutic experts to facilitate patient management and care.
  • Execute expanded access programs (EAPs) for therapies under development.
  • Work with local patient organizations in collaboration with affiliate Stakeholder Engagement team and regional Public Affairs to educate about the disease area and advances in patient care.
  • Support therapeutic experts in developing concepts and protocols for SRAs / IITs / registries that support orphan drug therapies.
  • Support appropriate screening processes to identify potential investigators for Biogen initiated clinical trials, collaborate with clinical trial groups to evaluate requests and assess.
  • Support the development and implementation of the internal training plan, monitor the plan and update knowledge of disease area.
  • Support the affiliate SMA team with center readiness activities.
  • Manage national and international medical projects in the Country, strategically engaging internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate leadership in working collaboratively and in total alignment with the SMA cross functional team (i.e. SMA Care Manager, Market Access, etc.) ensuring the successful implementation of the company’s overall SMA strategy and objectives.
Qualifications
  • Medical or scientific qualification.
  • Must have 2-3 years of MSL experience.
  • Ideally, medical/scientific experience in rare diseases, clinical research or investigation in neuromuscular field.
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Drug Safety, Legal and Compliance environment.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment with high level of autonomy.
  • Strong customer orientation, science based.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (scientific and non-scientific) throughout all levels in Spanish and English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in total alignment with the commercial group.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence and build partnerships with opinion leaders.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of professional integrity.
  • Is able to ascertain customer/client needs and demonstrate a strong orientation towards customer service.
  • Willingness to travel as it is a field-based role.
