Amazon Devices is an inventive research and company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. The devices org began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo and Amazon Show. The Amazon Devices group delivers delightfully unique Amazon experiences, giving customers instant access to everything, digital or physical.

As a Software Engineer at Amazon, you will own critical frameworks and apps that make it possible to applications for Amazon devices. You will create common software components to help Amazon our smart home devices by working on projects that push the boundaries of customer-device interaction including product lines such as Echo and Fire TV. You will be challenged to create rich customer applications, while also optimizing for performance.

You will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and innovative customer experiences. You will create new solutions in a responsive, flexible and collaborative peer environment. You will participate in designing, prototyping, and building solutions to hard problems in the Amazon ecosystem for our exciting future in consumer devices.




A day in the life
If you join our team, you will get to build new products and features from the ground up. You will define and build features and tools used by thousands of developers for building for millions of customers. We work across multiple internal teams as well as product to define what we are building and make it a reality. SDEs on this team are actively writing code, as well as working on designs and mentoring others. As the Device OS org we get to work horizontally across many exciting new device types.

About the team
This team’s primary focus is to enable developers to swiftly create delightful, performant, and interactive devices for our smart home ecosystem. We are responsible for working closely with developers and end customers to build the frameworks and tools that they need to be highly productive. As a part of the Device OS organization, you’ll get to interact and work with multiple teams to develop an ecosystem end to end from product conception to ultimately shipping on the vast number of Amazon devices in the field.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
· 6+ years of relevant work experience in Computer Science fundamentals – object oriented design, data structures, algorithms, design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
· 3+ years of experience in Java or C++
· 3+ years of experience in Linux

· Master’s or Ph.D degree in Science or related field.
· 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and (architecture, patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
· Experience building a UI framework or UI application. Options include but not limited to: QT, Android SDK, iOS SDK, React Native, Javascript, Flutter, Skia, mobile or desktop applications with a UI.
· Experience developing for Linux.
· Skills in optimizing for devices with constrained CPU and memory resources.
· Ability to drive an optimal software architecture across multiple teams.
· Excellence in technical communication with peers, partners, and non-technical contributors.
