Job Description
Scope of Position
The Corporate Legal Department of Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. is seeking a motivated and well-qualified commercial transactions attorney to serve as Corporate Contracts Manager based out of its Madrid office supporting the Director of Global Legal Services.
The position will involve assisting with complex legal matters and advising business partners on legal implications and risk exposure involved in commercial transactions. The primary day to day responsibilities for the position will be drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial service contracts of varying complexity with Expeditors’ business teams across the globe, but with an emphasis on Europe and MAIR (Middle East, Africa, and Indian subcontinent Region). The positon will also include drafting and negotiating confidentiality agreements and other commercial documents.
In addition to support with commercial contracts, the position will also require providing guidance on bankruptcy matters, secured credit issues, corporate entity management, litigation management, and other general legal questions from different business teams globally. A successful candidate must be able to effectively manage multiple matters with different priorities at the same time.
Qualifications
Desired Skill-Sets and Characteristics
- 2 - 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Prior experience should have an emphasis on contract drafting and negotiation.
- Full English fluency is an absolute requirement. Almost all communications, both written and verbal, will be conducted in English. Professional level competency (spoken and written) in another European language (particularly German or French) is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Knowledge of and experience in the logistics industry is a plus, but not required.
- Law degree and membership in a Spanish or other European Union member state bar association required.
- Legal residency and permission to work in Spain required.
- A candidate should have a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal communication skills, great attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management skills.
