The laboratory of Dr. José M. López at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in the study of the molecular mechanisms of a metabolic and neurogenetic disease.
The lab has an open position to study the cellular alterations and the mechanisms responsible for neuronal dysfunction in Lesch-Nyhan Disease (LND), an X-linked disease with characteristic neurobehavioral abnormalities. This disease is caused by mutations in the HPRT1 gene, which encodes the hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGprt) enzyme. Fibroblasts, lymphocytes, and iPSCs obtained from LND patients and normal controls will be used to study the biochemical alterations induced by HPRT1 deficiency. Potential therapies, with different drugs, will be assayed to revert the cellular alterations observed in LND.
The successful applicant should have a recent Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, or Neuroscience. Prior experience with cell culture, HPLC, proteomic and metabolomic analysis is recommended.
