Job Description

VMware is looking for a Software Engineer interested in joining the Bitnami Engineering R&D team, part of the Modern Applications Platform group. The team is primarily focused on integrating new Cloud Native applications for Tanzu Application Catalog, but also engaged in configuring those servers and applications to be production-ready on Kubernetes environments.

The candidate should be able to evaluate different cluster topologies and consider security, performance and maintenance at any levels.  The position involves implementing containers and Kubernetes deployment files, writing down the configuration for the solutions, developing a test suite for covering most of the scenarios and automating the whole process to make sure any new versions will be released without human intervention.

The job also expects you to look into the catalog code, do deeper security & performance analysis for individual features and present insights to the rest of the team. You’ll be part of a bright engineering team that has an open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork and customer success culture.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for all the Kubernetes solutions we offer to customers and Open Source users. Refine the overall software architecture for those solutions and define/drive improvements.

  • Work with the Tanzu Application Catalog customers and the Open Source Catalog users to guide usage and adoption. This involves participating in release of the software, leading the team to be active on the relevant forums, and responding to bug reports from the customers and users.

  • Work directly with engineering teams for different areas of VMware Tanzu portfolio.

  • Be actively involved in team-wide discussions about software best practices.

  • Be the technical expert that coaches and trains junior members of the engineering team.

  • Identify issues, resolve bugs and write high-quality engineering documentation.

  • Keep your team unblocked by performing timely and useful code reviews.

  • Take responsibility for continuous improvements in the coding and development of your own coding practices as well as of your team’s practices.

Requirements
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred; demonstrable understanding of systems, algorithms, and OO design required.

  • 5+ years of industry experience.

  • Proficient knowledge of a back-end programming language (i.e. Go, Ruby, NodeJS, Python, etc.) and code versioning tools.

  • Exposure to container and Kubernetes technology, container-focused Linux distributions, and virtualisation in the cloud.

  • Design and develop integration, security, performance and scalability using industry standards tools.

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.

  • Exceptional organisation skills and proven ability to prioritise work.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).

  • Strong familiarity with Agile development.

  • Past experience managing relationships with software vendors is a plus.

  • Ability to work daily in our Sevilla, Spain office
