This is an exciting role where you will need to operate dynamically, be a self-starter and will take responsibility for ongoing and new Spanish and southern European initiatives and legislation. You will support the VP Government & Corporate Affairs EMEA-APAC-LATAM in inventive EU-wide projects as well as monitor and take ownership for EU issues with a national dimension for Spain and many and other selected southern European markets. You will also lead the government & corporate projects in areas such as short term rental and online travel agent regulation.

We're looking for someone who is fluent in English and Spanish and it would be welcomed if you spoke Italian and Portuguese although not a necessity.

Responsibility
  • Support the organization's policies and objectives across the Expedia Group brands in online travel distribution; for leisure (e.g. Expedia, Hotels.com, ebookers), corporate travel (Egencia), metasearch (trivago) and short term vacation rentals (HomeAway)
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activities, and develop company positions and approaches.
  • In partnership with the VP Government and Corporate Affairs EMEA, direct and coordinate matters related to Spanish and southern European government affairs and regulations, and analyse proposed legislative actions to determine potential impact on the organization.
  • Shape and implement Expedia/HomeAway's strategy to partner with and communicate effectively with staff and members of the Spanish government, administration, Parliament, regional and local authorities and other relevant partners.
  • Shape and implement Expedia's strategy to partner with and communicate effectively with staff and members of the other southern European governments, administrations, Parliaments, regional and local authorities and other relevant partners.
  • Represent HomeAway and Expedia in selected EU, Spanish and other national trade associations and during conferences/workshops
  • Coordinate Expedia/HomeAway campaign efforts at national level, including producing position papers and presentations
  • Provide relevant, timely, and insightful advice on legislation with direct relevance to Expedia Group. internally and drive required follow-up action
  • Develop new relationships with partners and trade associations
  • Manage the network of external advisors/consultants in the context of Expedia’s government and corporate affairs activities

Requirement/Qualifications:
  • College degree
  • English, Spanish speaking
  • Proven experience working with Spanish government institutions (5 years +)
  • Technology sector or travel industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
